Exploring Agricultural Education: A Visit from Gituamba High School to Charis Farm
Last week, Charis Farm had the pleasure of hosting a group of students and teachers from Maraigushu High School on a visit to our farm.
The visit was an opportunity for the students to learn about modern farming practices and gain practical knowledge that they can apply in their own agricultural endeavors. The day began with a warm welcome from our team, who introduced the students to the various aspects of our farm. We started with a tour of our facilities, including our training halls, internet-equipped library, and fully furnished holiday home. The students were impressed by the resources available to them and eager to learn more about our farming techniques. One of the highlights of the visit was our demonstration of smart farming practices. We showed the students how we maximize productivity in limited spaces using vertical, multi-story, keyhole, tire, sack, and Moisty Moisty raised gardening techniques. The students were fascinated by these innovative methods and asked many questions about how they could implement similar practices at their school. We also introduced the students to our high breed rearing programs, focusing on goats, pigs, and rabbits. We explained the breeding techniques, feeding practices, housing requirements, and disease management strategies that are essential for successful livestock farming. The students were particularly interested in our rabbit rearing program, as they had never seen such high-quality breeds before. Throughout the visit, our team emphasized the importance of sustainable farming practices and the role that young farmers like the students from Gituamba High School can play in promoting food security and environmental conservation. We encouraged them to share what they had learned with their classmates and to consider pursuing careers in agriculture. As the day came to a close, we thanked the students and teachers from Maraigushu High School for visiting us and expressed our hope that they had found the experience both educational and inspiring. We look forward to welcoming more schools to Charis Farm in the future and continuing to promote agricultural education and innovation in our community.
