Implementation of 50 Multistorey Gardens at Asante Children’s Home – Phase One
1. Background
Charis Farm Naivasha and Asante Children’s Home have entered into an MoU to promote food security, youth empowerment, and sustainable farming practices. In line with this collaboration, the first phase of the project proposes establishing 50 multistorey gardens at Asante Children’s Home. These gardens will directly improve nutrition for the children, generate income through surplus sales, and act as training units for youth in modern agribusiness.
2. Objectives
- To establish 50 productive multistorey gardens within the first phase.
- To enhance nutrition and food security for children and staff.
- To train youth in sustainable agribusiness practices.
- To generate income through surplus vegetable sales.
- To provide one-month supervision and mentorship for sustainable adoption.
- To strengthen market linkages for produce.
3. Implementation Approach
- Site Preparation: Identify and allocate space at Asante Children’s Home.
- Procurement & Installation: Gardens constructed using inputs (manure, topsoil, seedlings, labour).
- Training: Charis Farm to train youth and staff in garden management.
- Supervision & Support: One-month technical supervision by Charis Farm experts.
- Market Support: Facilitation of produce linkages to local Naivasha markets.
4. Roles & Responsibilities
- Charis Farm: Technical expertise, training, supervision, monitoring.
- Asante Children’s Home: Land allocation, staff & youth mobilization, day-to-day management.
- Jointly: Reporting, accountability, donor engagement.

7. Sustainability
Skills imparted to youth and staff ensure long-term management. Income from vegetable sales reinvested into garden maintenance. Continuous mentorship from Charis Farm under the MoU framework.
